Call
The educational goal of night and weekend call at View Behavioral Health Hospital is to provide residents with supervised experience seeing patients with acute psychiatric issues that arise after hours, developing skills in independent clinical decision-making, and determining when to consult senior psychiatric colleagues and consultants. The UCR Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program adheres to all ACGME clinical and educational work-hour limits.
PGY-1
First-year residents take psychiatry call when they arotate at the View Behavioral Health Hospital. The different shifts are as follows:
Short Call
- Mondays through Thursdays, 5:30 pm-10:30 pm (5-hour shift)
- Fridays, 5:30 pm-midnight (6.5-hour shift)
- Residents are scheduled for 10-11 short calls per year.
Weekends and Holidays
- Saturday, 8 am-8 am (24-hour shift); Approximate call frequency: 2-3 shifts per year
- 8 am-8 pm (12-hour shift); Approximate call frequency: 2-3 shifts per year
- 8 am-8 pm; Approximate call frequency: 1 shift per year
Residents are assigned 15-17 call shifts per year. If the number of call shifts changes, we ask residents to be flexible. At all times, faculty provide supervision as faculty backup for residents while they are on call at View Behavioral health Hospital. Supervising attending physicians are readily available for indirect supervision by telephone, with direct supervision available.
PGY-2
Second year residents take psychiatry call when they rotate at RUHS and the View Behavioral Health Hospital. The different shifts are as follows:
Weekends and Holidays
- 8 am-6 pm (10-hour shift); Approximate call frequency: 15 shifts per year
PGY-3 and PGY-4
Third- and fourth-year residents do not take call in our program.
