Psychiatry Residency Program Overview
The UC Riverside Psychiatry Residency Training Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and accepts applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our NRMP program categorical code is 1522400C0.
Application Information
To complete our application process, applicants must submit the following materials through ERAS no later than September 24, 2025. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications, if you submit after this date, we are not able to guarantee that your application will be reviewed.
We conduct a holistic review of all applications, with priority given to those who signal UCR. A complete application includes:
- Medical school transcript
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE/dean’s letter) from your medical school
- Personal statement
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- USMLE or COMLEX exam transcripts
- Please note that only applicants who have passed USMLE Step 2 or COMPLEX Level 2 by January 31 will be ranked by the program.
- At least three letters of recommendation:
- At least one letter must be from a faculty psychiatrist who can comment directly on your clinical performance in psychiatry.
- At least one additional letter must be from a non-psychiatrist commenting directly on your clinical work in another specialty such as internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, etc.
- We strongly recommend that you complete an internal medicine, neurology, or pediatrics acting/sub-internship prior to submitting your application. However, we understand that that may not be able to happen due to scheduling constraints.
Select applicants will receive an email with a link to a short survey requesting a brief (maximum 150 words) response to the following question:
“Why is the UC Riverside Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program specifically appealing to you?”
